2022 will be the occasion for Apple to offer a new 30 W charger that will be based on gallium nitride (GaN) technology, according toby Ming-Chi Kuo. The analyst is generally knowledgeable about future Apple products.
An Apple 30 W charger (GaN) for 2022
The choice of a GaN charger would make it possible to have a more compact product than the existing models based on silicon. The power is still there and the accessory heats up less. So there are only positives for the user.
Currently, Apple offers 20W and 30W chargers, but both use silicon. It is currently unclear whether the new GaN model will replace the current 30W model or succeed the 20W model.
You should know that Apple already offers a GaN charger, this is the 140 W model found with the latest 14 and 16 inch MacBook Pros. The accessory is relatively small and easily transported, while offering significant power for fast charging.
Ming-Chi Kuo does not give a precise release date for this new charger, except that it will be sometime in 2022. Can we expect an announcement tomorrow during Apple’s keynote? Maybe.
