After Apple’s decision to stop production of the Beats Pill+, the only battery-powered speaker on the list, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed that the company had created a prototype HomePod with a built-in battery.
In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman wrote that years ago Apple built and prototyped a battery-powered smart speaker. Despite these tests dating back several years, it is unlikely that the company will release a product of this type in the future. Apple still wants to focus on the battery-less HomePod mini, which clearly only works when connected to a power source.
However, the idea of a small battery-powered HomePod wouldn’t be bad, as it would allow us to place it anywhere in the house without cable and power problems, but also to transport it for listening in shift.
And you, would you have bought an Apple speaker of this type?
