Apple is working on a new external scanner to check trade-in iPhones

Apple is developing a new trade-in service tool that will allow an iPhone to be scanned for cosmetic damage.

With this new tool, Apple will be able to get a more accurate estimate of the value of the iPhone the user wants to trade. The code for this novelty was discovered in the beta of iOS 15.4, but at the moment there are many details.

In a diagnostic services section, however, there is mention of a swap tool and device scan, which will also involve a QR code. We still don’t know how it all works, but Apple will likely allow users to scan their device for details of any scratches or damage, then send the results to Apple via a QR code.

At this point, Apple will make a more accurate remote estimate of the value of this iPhone and the user will decide whether to trade it in or not.
