There is a thriving market for counterfeit Apple accessories in Lacina America, such as iPhone cases, chargers, and even AirPods. The Cupertino company has therefore decided to take new measures to try to stem this phenomenon.
One of the initiatives recently undertaken involves the collaboration with Mercado Libre, one of the most popular online stores in Latin America. Sellers offering products through this platform have indeed received an e-mail to be warned that more severe penalties will be applied to those who sell counterfeit Apple products.
These penalties will be activated when Apple confirms a report of a counterfeit product, so the two companies will work together to try to curb this market. Among the measures under consideration, Mercado Libre will remove all Apple products from a seller if only one of them is identified as counterfeit. In the future, the seller will also be prohibited from selling other Apple products on the platform. For this reason, the company suggests that sellers review the list of products on sale and remove any counterfeit Apple products as soon as possible.
In any case, Mercado Libre will remove the listings of all counterfeit Apple products from February 22. Among other things, Apple itself has an official page on the platform, just like on Amazon.
