Apple announced that its suppliers have more than doubled their use of clean energy over the past year.
Apple suppliers are now using more than 10 gigawatts of clean energy out of nearly 16 gigawatts of total commitment pledged over the next few years. In 2021, renewable energy projects linked to Apple and its suppliers avoided 13.9 million tons of carbon emissions, which is equivalent to taking 3 million cars off the road per year.
Additionally, 213 of Apple’s major suppliers have pledged to power all of the company’s production with renewable energy in 25 countries, helping to achieve the company’s goal of being carbon neutral globally. its entire supply chain by 2030. Apple’s direct global operations have been carbon neutral since 2020.
Apple also continues to invest in renewable projects around the world, including nearly 500 megawatts of solar power and other renewable projects in China and Japan to reduce some of the carbon emissions.
