FDA approves first iOS app to control insulin pumps

The United States Food and Drug Administration has authorized the first iOS application capable of controlling insulin delivery levels via a special pump.

The t:connect app (available in the US only) can be used with the Tandem Diabetes Care t:slim X2 insulin pump. The FDA-cleared version allows the user to schedule and cancel bolus insulin requests via an iPhone or Android device.

The app t:connect previously allowed users to only view pump information from the iPhone. With this new feature, t:connect displays the last 24 hours of glucose trends, pump status changes and insulin therapy data. The app requires iOS 14 or later and is currently only compatible with the t:slim X2 insulin pump.
