iOS 15.4 beta 4 adds alerts to avoid spying with AirTags

Beta 4 of iOS 15.4, available today, implements a new alert system related to AirTags. This is a mechanism to fight against espionage, with some people trying to find out the location of a loved one without the latter being aware. There have been several cases with this scenario.

A new alert on iOS 15.4 for AirTags

With iOS 15.4, users will see a new message when setting up an AirTag linked to an object, clearly indicating that the accessory is linked to their Apple account, which contains their personal data.

You can locate this object using Network Locate. Using this object to track people without their consent is a crime in many parts of the world. This object is designed to be detected by victims and to allow law enforcement to request identifying information about the owner.

With this warning, Apple wants to make it clear to those who would use AirTags and third-party devices that are compatible with the Find Network as spy tools that such a use case is illegal and has criminal repercussions.

This seems to be the only notable new feature of iOS 15.4 beta 4. This is currently available for developers. The equivalent public beta should arrive tomorrow. As for the final version, it should be available around March 8.
