Installing iOS 16 may not be available for iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and the first iPhone SE. The iPad mini 4, iPad Air 2, iPad 5 and iPad Pro of 2015 would not for their part be entitled to iPadOS 15.
iOS 16 would drop support for some iPhones
Information regarding support for iOS 16 on iPhone and iPadOS 16 on iPad comes from iPhonesoft. However, it should be taken with a grain of salt because the site, which quotes “A developer friend at Apple” which works on the Plans application, announced this year that iOS 15 would not support the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and the first iPhone SE. It turns out that all three models can install the update. The site therefore crashed, it shared false information. Watch out for today’s one, then.
But let’s say the list is good, then iOS 16 would require at least a device with the A10 chip. The iPhone 6s will have lasted a long time in any case. The smartphone was released in September 2015 and can still receive software updates with iOS 15. This will continue in the first half of 2022 with other versions, including iOS 15.3 which is currently available in beta.
If Apple does not change its schedule, the presentation of iOS 16 will be in June during WWDC 2022. It will also be the opportunity to discover macOS 13, watchOS 9 and tvOS 16.
