Apple no longer depends solely on China for the production of the iPhone 13, the group and its partner Foxconn have started production in India. The contractor broke the news to Reuters.
Production of iPhone 13 begins in India
The production of iPhone 13 in India takes place at a factory located in the city of Sriperumbudur in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is not specified for the moment what the production volume is, but it would be surprising if it were higher than that in China. India comes here as a complement and not as a replacement.
Apple already knows India. In 2017, the company launched production of the iPhone SE locally. Last year, this was the case for the iPhone 12. And according to Reuters, Apple also plans to assemble iPads in the country. However, it is not specified which models would be affected.
Apple is increasingly interested in India, including the opening of the online Apple Store last year. Indians can thus buy iPhones, iPads, Macs and other products directly from Apple, instead of going through resellers. A physical Apple Store must also see the light of day. In reality, Apple had announced an opening by the end of 2021, but it didn’t happen. The group does not say what the new slot is.
