Analyst Jeff Pu once again says that the iPhone 15 Pro will feature a periscope lens with 5x optical zoom.
According to the analyst, Apple is in talks with Lante Optics, which is expected to be the main supplier of periscope lenses to be used in iPhones in 2023. The report indicates that Apple has already received samples of these components and that a final decision should be taken in May.
If these components are approved, Apple will include the periscope lens in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. The analyst expects that, if the deal goes through, Lante Optics will supply more than 100 million components to Apple.
The periscope lens uses the same principle, but with a single mirror, to deflect light 90 degrees. On the left is a classic zoom lens, which requires all elements to fit the depth of the smartphone (in addition to a small protrusion like on the iPhone). On the right there is a periscope lens, which allows the length of the lens to be increased considerably, since the depth of the phone would no longer be an issue. That means having a bigger optical zoom, which on the iPhone 15 could be 5x.
What now seems certain is that this novelty will not be introduced on the iPhone 14, which could still offer important novelties regarding the rear camera. In fact, we are talking about a 48-megapixel wide-angle lens and 8K video recording.
