Qualcomm unveils the new generation of modem … which will integrate the iPhone 15

Qualcomm has just unveiled at MWC 2022 the Snapdragon X70, its new generation of modem chip doped with artificial intelligence which will undoubtedly integrate the future iPhone 15 (2023). The founder presents the X70 as “the world’s first 5G AI processor integrated into a 5G modem-RF system”, which means in common language that this chip will increase the average download speed on the mmWave bands and below 6 GHz.

For the rest, the X70 “inherits the unparalleled maximum download speed of 10 Gigabit 5G from its predecessor” as Qualcomm specifies in its press release. Integrated technology Qualcomm 5G Ultra-Low Latency should make it possible to obtain smartphones with a much lower level of latency in 5G. The upload rate is 3.5 Gbit/s (against 3 Gbps on the X65), while saving 60% less energy compared to the X65. The modem also supports 5G global multi-SIM as well as Dual-SIM Dual Active.

The X70 arrives too late on the market to integrate the iPhone 14 which will be marketed in September, but it will undoubtedly be part of the iPhone 15. As a reminder, the contract between Apple and Qualcomm on the delivery of modems will end on May 31, 2024. From this date, Apple will be entitled to offer its own “home” modem, a chip which would also have been in preparation for at least two years.
