Apple announced it in 2020, its Maps application will eventually be able to integrate the passport and driver’s license of its user. Things picked up speed last year at WWDC when the Cupertino company showed off a first look at the feature. Today, it seems the big day has arrived. In Arizona, iPhone and Apple Watch owners can now integrate their driver’s license as well as their identity card into their Maps application.

The feature is available on iPhone 8 and laterprovided you have installed the iOS 15.4 update, as well as on Apple Watch Series 4 minimum running at least on watchOS 8.4. Currently, Arizona is the only region in the world with access. To add your documents, just click on the + button at the top right, select “Driver’s license and identity card” and follow the app instructions.

To verify his identity, the user must take a picture of his face and perform several head movements before scanning the front and back of their identity card and/or driving licence. This data will then be sent to the state administration for verification. Once added, it will be possible to access the documents directly from their iPhone or Apple Watch. These devices will suffice for scan them during the security checkat the airport for example.

Apple plans “to integrate identity documents into Maps for all users across the United States” in the coming months, citing Colorado, Mississippi, and Ohio in particular. However, the manufacturer did not specify whether the functionality will be deployed in other countries. It will therefore be necessary to be patient before seeing it land in France.
