The next Mac mini will have the M2 and M2 Pro chips

Despite the presentation of the Mac Studio, Apple will not abandon the Mac mini range and plans two new models with M2 chips.

As 9to5Mac reports, Apple is developing a Mac mini with an M2 processor and a Mac mini with an M2 Pro processor. Code name J473the new Mac mini will be powered by the M2 chip which will be the first major update in the Apple Silicon family.

Known internally as ” Staten“, the M2 is based on the current A15 chip, while the M1 is based on the A14 Bionic. Just like the M1, the M2 will feature an eight-core processor (four high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores), but this time with a more powerful 10-core GPU. The new performance cores are codenamed ” Avalanche“, while high-efficiency cores are known internally as “ Blizzard“.

According to the latest rumors, the development of the Mac mini M2 is coming to an end and its release date should be announced later this year. In addition, it seems that Apple planned to offer a Mac mini with an M1 Pro and M1 Max chip, but in the end the idea was discarded to focus on the Mac Studio.

Currently, the company has no plans to release a version with the M2 Max or Ultra chips. Until then, Apple will likely keep the Intel Mac mini on the list.
