TSMC hit by massive power outage in Taiwan

The southern region of Taiwan was affected a few days ago by a huge power outage following a technical problem at the Hsinta power plant in Kaohsiung. More than 5 million homes lost power, and many local factories, including TSMC’s, had to pause production.

Thus, the units of Tainan Science Park recorded abnormal voltage increases, but it is still not known to what extent the failure could have affected the production of the Ax and Mx processors (as a reminder, TSMC produces all the chips of the iPhone , iPad and Mac). In any case, the local authorities have just confirmed that the power has been almost completely restored for 75% of the households concerned. The Minister of Economy Wang Mei Hua nonetheless clarified that“It will take longer to restore electricity to southern Taiwan”.
